The M240i has 450 horsepower, compared to the M3’s 503.
BMW’s range is packed with power and performance. Although the M3 is a classic automotive vehicle, its size, power and cost have increased over time. BMW offers more affordable performance options such as the M240i, however it is not the same as the larger M3. A new video on the Officially Gazsed YouTube channel shows how a tuned M240i can compete with the M3, which is heavier and more powerful.
The M240i race car arrived with a new intake and cat-back exhaust. It also had a software tune. The turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-6 engine now produces 450 horsepower (335kW). The stock model has a twin-turbo 3.0-liter six cylinder that produces 503 horsepower (375 kW). This contest is more intense for the M3 than it is for the M240i, which also weighs more. The M240i weighs in at 1,690 kg (3,725 lbs), while the M3 weighs in at 1,745 kg (3.847 lbs).
The M240i’s lightness made it an advantage in drag racing, which was the best of the three. In both cases, the M240i was able to launch better than the M3. The M240i was able to take a significant lead over the M3 in both instances. The quarter-mile was completed by the M240i in 11.607 seconds, at 117.72 mph (189.45 km/h). The M3 was right behind it, finishing in 11.843 seconds at 121.89mph (196.16 km/h).
Rolling races were quite different. The M240i lost its advantage of being lighter. The M3’s stronger engine kept the M240i ahead in both races. However, the M240 finished just one car length behind the M3 at the end of the race.
Although neither BMW won the race with clear victories, both took home two wins. However, drag racing shows how the M240i can compete with the more expensive M3. M3 owners might feel a little more nervous if they spend a bit more to get the perfect tune for their M240i before they go to bed.
