A pair of hot hatches are seen at a Japanese thoroughfare.
The global debut of the 2023 Honda Civic Type R is fast approaching. The next generation of the iconic hot hatchback is expected to debut this month. It was spotted casually walking along a Japanese thoroughfare. The camouflage is still intact, but two samples were spotted on public roads thanks to HONDA who posted the video.
Below is an embedded social media post with a captionhttps://twitter.com/i/status/1535600311611834368 which reads (roughly translated from Twitter):
New Civic Type R
It is an older molding of FK8, but it has a totally different exterior design. I’d like to upload the Type R test drive video as soon as possible.
新型シビックタイプR
やっぱり、FK8の熟成型とはいえ、全く違ったエクステリアのデザイン性です。

The license plates for the prototypes are marked 1 and 2. The prototypes were photographed at dusk. That’s why they had the lights on. The lighting elements look exactly the same as the Honda Civic Hatchback. Nevertheless, the debut of the red-badged model will reveal more design differences from the non-Type R model.
These elements include an aggressively designed body, although not as aggressive than the outgoing model. They also include the large wing and triple exhaust tips that were seen on the prototypes. The next-generation model will most likely include a set of large, low-profile wheels.
Although exact details and official engine information are not available at this time, it is safe to assume the next Civic Type R will feature a reworked turbocharged 2.0-liter motor under its hood. The current FK8 version of the four-pot produces 306 horsepower (228 megawatts). There were rumors of a 400-hp (298 kW) engine, but no concrete evidence was found. As with the previous model, there will be a 6-speed manual transmission.
Honda has officially stated that the next generation Civic Type R will be making its global debut in June. However, no date has been established. The US will launch at the Mid-Ohio NTT IndyCar Series Event in July.
