Watch an Old Three-Door Mercedes G-Class go Airborne

Vossen gives a G an overhaul with custom wheels, and then takes it off-road.

The previous-generation Mercedes G-Class was available in many versions, including an Landaulet and a 6×6 off-road beast, a powerful AMG V8 or V12, as well as a high-powered G500 4×4 2. The three-door body style was another variant. This is unlikely to be a return as three-door SUVs are no longer in fashion. Vossen has released a video that highlights the custom wheels.

Vossen’s Hybrid Forged Series HF-3 wheel set allows the three-door to get a little dirty while taking on the muddy terrain. Before getting serious airtime, the G Class is not afraid to get a bit of dirt. This G-Class is rare in America, so it’s a treat to see this particular G.

The price for the wheels starts at $549 and you can choose from many finishes, including a glamorous gloss gold look. They are 22 inches long, with the spare wheel at the rear, and have a more subtle polished silver look. Customers can also choose to go smaller or larger than 19 inches.

The original G was designed to be a vehicle that could go anywhere, but its modern counterpart is hardly ever seen on the road. This is not stopping Mercedes Spy shots have revealed a brand new 4×4 to further enhance the vehicle’s all-conquering abilities. 2 It is currently in development.

A fully-electric version of the G-Class is expected later in the decade. Brabus found a way to fit the twin-turbo, 6.0-liter engine into the new model’s engine compartment, with 888 horsepower. To make sure the tuner is up to speed, the Bottrop-based company has also launched a pickup truck version.

We are not surprised that Brabus, or another tuner, will remove the rear doors from their vehicles and return to this unique and more family-friendly design.
