Block won the Subaru’s first national rally championship.
Ken Block’s car control skills are rare, but you can now experience what it is like to drive one of his cars. His 2002 Subaru WRX STI has been put up for auction . Block’s Facebook description of the car is completely different from a normal listing. This car was not gently driven to church on Sunday mornings. He wrote that the car was a complete 180.
This is a 2002 STI, but it has the front fascia of a 2006 model. Block purchased the car from Vermont SportsCar. This company is a leader in Subaru competition vehicle building, with vehicles such as Travis Pastrana’s Subaru Rally Team USA car and the wildSTI for the most recent Gymkhana installation.
This STI features a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. It also has Group N rally parts for the turbo, intercooler and turbo. The engine runs through a six speed dogbox transmission and an active center differential. Competition-spec components are used for the suspension and brakes. All the safety features that you would expect from a racing car interior, such as a roll cage or HANS-compliant seats, are present.
Block’s first stunt, a jump of 171 feet in 2008 with this car (video below). Another important claim to fame is that it won Block’s first national championship rally victory at the 100 Acre Wood in march 2006. One could argue that Gymkhana would not exist without the Subie.
Block’s mechanics will perform a mechanical refresh on the vehicle before it is handed over to its new owner. This work will include new fluids, a new cambelt, and a new fuel cell. You’ll then be ready to take the wheel and show off your Gymkhana skills. Auction price at $53,000. The sale ends March 3, 2021. The entire buyer’s fee will be donated by the seller to Make-A-Wish Foundation.
