NISMO Heritage Parts now has 160 components that will keep Godzilla on the road.
Nissan is here to assist owners of the old but still great R33 and R34 Skyline cars. There are approximately 160 parts available through the NISMO Heritage Parts Program. These parts cover everything from electrical items to critical mechanical bits.
Skyline history lesson
This sounds familiar? Nissan launched this part program nearly a year ago with 80 parts for R32 GT-R. Although the Skyline was not the first iteration, the R32 (1989-1994) was the most interesting era for Nissan’s famous sports car. All-wheel drive was made possible, and the GT-R’s power came from a twin-turbo inline six 2.6-liter engine that produced 276 horsepower (206 Kilowatts).
The 1994 model year saw the R33 Skyline take over the reigns. It featured sharper lines, a more aggressive bodywork, and the same twin-turbo I6 engine from the R32 GT-R. Although the official rating of 276 horsepower is still valid, the R34 GT-R was rated at close to 330 horsepower (246 kW). Many enthusiasts consider the R32-R34 GT-R Godzilla models to be the most powerful performance machines of the 1990s.
The NISMO Heritage Parts Program actually involves several companies, including Nissan and its NISMO division. Autech Japan is also involved. Autech Japan has been around for a long time as a Japanese tuning company that has a keen eye on creating unique-edition Nissans. As demand dictates, the program will likely expand with new R32 parts.
After a few years, manufacturers often stop supporting vehicles’ parts. This is even for models that have a large enthusiast following. Let’s face the truth – automakers want to sell new cars more than keep old ones. It is very encouraging to see Nissan take steps to preserve its iconic cars. We hope that more OEMs will take note.
