It also lacks the electronic stability control system, seat belt pretensioners, and seat belt pretensioners.
AvtoVAZ is now in trouble as Renault decided to sell its controlling stake to the Central Research and Development Automobile and Engine Institute of Russia. Car production was temporarily halted due to sanctions placed on Russia by the War in Ukraine. The operations are now back on track, but Granta is only a shadow of its former self because of parts shortages.
The 2022 Lada granta Classic is missing crucial safety features that we have taken for granted over the past several decades. Automotive News states that the small sedan lacks anti-lock brakes or airbags. It also lacks an electronic stability control system or seat belt pretensioners.
As if this weren’t enough, the engine that powers the vehicle doesn’t meet Euro 5 regulations. The naturally aspirated 1.6-liter motor with 90 horsepower only meets Euro 2. These regulations were in effect in 1996. While automakers are working to prepare for Euro 7 in the future, the Granta remains in the past.
According to the official press release the Granta is multimedia ready with four speakers. This means that you will need to plug in your head unit. The Granta does come with central locking and a tripcomputer, as well as power front windows and heated/folding mirrors. The car is available in three trim levels: sedan, liftback and wagon. It rides on standard 14-inch steel wheels. An optional 15-inch alloy set will be made soon.
The stripped-down Granta is obviously much more affordable than the regular Granta. It now costs 658,300 rubles (EUR11,000.165 or $12,000 at current exchange rates). This includes the trade-in program and Lada’s finance credit program. It is the most affordable new car that you can purchase in Russia today, thanks to its lower asking price.
AvtoVAZ will likely release simplified versions of its other products, including the Lada Niva offroader (45 years old).
