The badges on this Continental GT PHEV development car are from the W12 model. It is an odd juxtaposition.
The next luxury brand’s model to receive an electrified version is the Bentley Continental GT. Motor.es spy photos capture the plug-in hybrid Conti driving on the roads with no camouflage. This vehicle is adorned with a badge at the side to add mystery and intrigue.
The Continental GT is identical to all other variants, except for the square-shaped opening at the right side. This sensor is thought to be for advanced driving aid systems because of its lens-like appearance. Motor.es states that the charging port is located under the cover at the rear fender.
It is strange that the vent located just behind the front wheels has the logo “12”. This indicates that the Continental GT’s twin-turbo W12 engine is used. This is not surprising as the plug-in hybrid Flying Spur and Bentayga have turbocharged V6 engines.
This is a development vehicle so we don’t think it is possible for Bentley to take a W12-powered Continental GT and test the PHEV powerplant. We will leave the 12-cylinder badges intact just in case.
Last year was the first time we heard about Bentley’s plans to create a plug-in hybrid Continental GT. The company stated that customers wanted a coupe with zero-emissions capability.
Bentley has not yet revealed when the PHEV Continental GT will be unveiled.
Bentley announced in early 2022 that it would invest PS2.5 billion into UK operations over 10 years. This money will be used to fund the automaker’s plans to create its first electric car in 2025. All of the company’s products will be electric by 2030.
According to reports, the EV that will be available in 2025 takes advantage of the innovations developed by Audi’s Artemis project. This project is developing a platform to produce highly automated electric cars. This architecture will be available to other brands belonging to the Volkswagen Group once it is complete.
Adrian Hallmark, CEO of Bentley, already confirmed that the electric model would come as an SUV.
