It seems Ford was the target of another high-profile vehicle heist. This time around, thieves made off with no less than 13 F-150 Raptor pickup trucks, with a total value of $1 million dollars.. They were literally taken from Ford’s yard.
The pickup trucks were taken from Ford’s Dearborn Truck Plant where the F150 is manufactured. According to Detroit News police received reports about stolen trucks starting June 17th. Additional reports were received over the weekend. Although it is not clear how these trucks were stolen from, the report states that some trucks sustained damage likely due to ramming gates and fences.
Dearborn stated that the trucks were stored in a lot for large assembly plants.
One suspect was arrested. Although the trucks were found at multiple locations, there was no happy ending. Apart from the damage mentioned, the F150 Raptorswere reported to have been found in different states of disassembly. Tires and wheels were named as the main components that were missing. It is not known if any of these trucks can be salvaged.
This may all sound familiar. Four new Mustang Shelby GT500s were stolen by thieves in December 2021. Flat Rock, south of Detroit, was the target. Like the Raptors, at most one Mustang was used for ramming a fence. Police found two Shelbys about 10 miles north of the plant, but they didn’t make it far. However, the drivers were never captured. We don’t know if the Mustangs with the second engine were ever found.
Amazingly, a second GT500 theft took place at Flat Rock in the same time frame as the Raptor theft. Five cars were taken from the factory. One driver was taken into custody by police, while two more vehicles were recovered. It is not known if the Mustang and Raptor car thefts are connected.
