Dual-motor configuration will produce 900 Nm (664 lb/ft) of torque.
Polestar introduced the Precept concept in early 2020, revealing its plans to create a Porsche Taycan fighter. The prototype of the performance electric vehicle has been unveiled by Volvo’s electric spinoff at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed. This car will not go into production until 2025. The Polestar 5 is therefore still fully camouflaged. It also features provisional lights which is why it has good old halogens.
If the leaked patent images are any indication, then hiding beneath the disguise should be the Precept’s car design. The prototype’s rear window is also camouflaged. We bring this up because the rear glass was missing from the prototype and the car shown in the patent images. It is too early to predict if the final Polestar 5 will have it or not, so the driver must rely on the camera.
The Polestar 5 is still in development, but the company is excited to announce a range-topping model with a powerful dual-motor setup. Engineers are aiming for 884 horsepower (650kilowatts) or 900 Newton-meters (664 pounds-feet).
According to our sources, the Precept will benefit from an 800V architecture. It will have the sophistication and performance of a grand touring car with the elegance of a sports car. This car will be large with two electric motors, a 103-kWh battery pack and is heavy.
The Polestar 5 will be revealed officially by the end 2023. It will feature conventional rear doors, smaller wheels and side mirrors, rather than the Precept’s unique features. The Polestar 3 and 4 will be joined by the sporty EV. It will take the form of larger SUVs that are more volume-oriented to compete with the likes the electric Porsche Macan, and the Audi Q6 E-Tron.
