They don’t make them as they used to. Wrong.
The Subaru Impreza 22B, a rally legend, is getting a makeover. Prodrive unveiled the P25 to pay tribute to the legendary car. This limited edition special edition made its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where it was driven up the hill to the delight of the general public. The familiar two-door WRX chassis is still there, but all other parts have been updated.
It sounds fantastic and produces over 400 horsepower in a car that is less than 1,200 kg (2,645 lb). Although the hill climb course was too short to fully exploit the P25’s capabilities, Prodrive claims its road-legal WRC car has supercar levels acceleration. It can sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h), in just three and a quarter seconds.
Carbon composite is used for most of the body panels. The engine is connected to a semi-automatic six-speed transmission with a launch control system that was derived from WRC-spec rally cars. The P25 comes with all-wheel drive, AP Racing brakes, a Garrett turbo, Bilstein dampers, and an adjustable center differential. There are also limited-slip differentials at the front and back.
Prodrive will convert 25 cars for a staggering PS460,000 ($564,000 per pop). This is before any value added tax (VAT), which is applicable in the UK. The first deliveries are expected to begin before the end the year. The car can be ordered without a rear bench by those who are willing to pay a small fortune for the P25. A partial safety cage can be installed by a motorsport specialist.
