Challenger Hellcat Vs Chevy Corvette Z06 Is Drag Racing At Its Finest

Door-to-door excitement is possible when cars are identically matched.

Side-by-side drag racing is the best. This video shows how evenly matched drivers make drag racing even more enjoyable.

These cars are a C7 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, and a Dodge Challenger RT Hellcat. Although we don’t know the model years of these cars, they are both red and we believe that the drivers know each others. We can see four races between these racers in the video. Based on the speeds and times we see on the boards we would guess that the cars are stock.

Chevrolet listed the C7Z06 as running the quarter mile in 11.2 seconds, at a speed 127 mph. The supercharged 6.2-liter V8 of the ‘Vette produces 650 horsepower (485 Kilowatts) as well as 650 pound-feet (881 Newton meters) of twist. The Challenger Hellcat standard-issue engine produces 707 horsepower (527 kW) and the same amount torque. It also runs 11.2 miles per hour, according to Dodge. This makes it a straight-up driver race.

That’s exactly what we get. We suspect that both cars are stock and have street tires. Neither machine launches with gusto. The drivers are extremely accurate with their reactions times, but they vary by only a few hundredths per pass. In the first race, Corvette has a slight advantage at the starting line. This leads to a small win of 11.24 seconds at speed 123 mph and 11.5 @ 122.7.

The cars change lanes for the second pass. It’s the fastest of all the passes with identical reaction times. The Hellcat took 11.492 seconds, while the ‘Vette took 11.504 seconds. This margin is 12 000ths of one second but enough to give the Challenger a win.

The video will not include the last two races. Although the action is not as close as in the second pass we will still be discussing door-to-door racing between supercharged V8 muscle cars. It’s a fantastic night at the drag strip, which we could watch over-and-over.
