The same safety standards apply to motorhomes as to passenger cars. To find out how they fare in a collision, contact Sweden’s Trafikverket transportation agency.mPut them to the test . These results are amazing to see.

The video shows Trafikverket performing this test after several recent fatal RV accidents in Sweden. The popularity of motorhomes in Sweden has increased, with a 50% increase in sales since 2014. The group decided to crash campers because they don’t usually do safety evaluations of campers.

Trafikverket chose two types of RVs. Semi-integrated designs have a cab from the manufacturer and a living space from the motorhome company. The RV manufacturer is the only one who can create the fully integrated design.

Both designs failed to pass the crash test. Trafikverket said that the semi-integrated RV’s driver would not survive the collision. The body of the semi-integrated layout is actually separate from the chassis. There’s no crash structure, as the panel maker builds the panels out wood.

The vehicles were accelerated against a barrier at 40 mph (64 km/h). Trafikverket calculated that the RVs’ weight meant the crash was comparable to a passenger car traveling at 56 mph (90 km/h).

Trafikverket is now determined to encourage motorhome manufacturers to make safer products. The organization is also discussing with Euro NCAP the possibility of making RV crash testing a more common evaluation. According to the group, camper owners should not leave any items in their vehicle during driving. This will ensure that there is less debris in an accident.
