The FordPass SmartLink is a small device that plugs into your car’s OBDII port, usually located below the steering wheel. The device will be available to cars manufactured between 2010 and 2017. It provides all of the latest connectivity features that are only available on vehicles with modems. It includes a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot, smartphone control for existing key fob features and vehicle health and safety alerts.

Ford claims the new device was developed in collaboration by Aptiv and Verizon Connect. It will be available exclusively at Ford dealers starting in the middle of the year. Customers will need a $16.99 monthly subscription for a period 24 months. The price does not include the installation fee. Also included is a Verizon 4GLTE Wi-Fi Hotspot with 1 gigabyte or 30 day of data (whichever comes first). You can add your FordPass SmartLink device or create a new Verizon account to continue using Wi-Fi hotspot after the trial period.
