Tomorrow will be the day that the electric sedan finally takes on its sleek shape.
It’s refreshing to see that the sedan still has a place in today’s electric era, despite the proliferation of SUVs and crossovers. After being shown off in March 2020 by the stunning Prophecy concept, the Ioniq 6 could not have come sooner. Although it will not look as sleek as the showcar, recent teasers have shown us that the production model will not be a boring three-box saloon. The design will be revealed fully on June 29th.
Hyundai has sneaked in one last teaser image of the Tesla Model 3 rival. The preview shows the front fascia, which includes the pixelated LED daytime run lights and smooth bumper design. This helps to improve aerodynamics and allows for greater range. Another preview showed the Ioniq 6 with its coupe-like roofline and large third brake light that features the familiar pixel theme.
The Ioniq 6 will ditch traditional glass mirrors as more and more countries approve side cameras for road-going vehicles. This should improve airflow and be further enhanced by door handles that are flush with the body when inactive. These features are already present on the Ioniq5, which has Cd of 0.2888. The sedan will have a lower number because it isn’t as tall as the crossover, according to Logic.
Hyundai claims that the complete design will not be presented until tomorrow. We will have to wait to see the technical details. The Ioniq 6 is said to have been extended by 2 cm (0.8 inches) in order to be more aerodynamic. According to the grapevine, the bumpers were also completely redesigned for the same reason. A larger-than-expected 77.4-kWh battery pack is being installed to maximize range. The bezels for the digital instrument cluster’s touchscreen and the infotainment’s touchscreen are now slimmer than those on the Ioniq 6.
According to reports, series production at South Korea’s Asan Plant will begin in July. Customers should expect to receive their first orders before the end. The most expensive version will be equipped with dual electric motors and all-wheel drive. It is expected to produce around 300 horsepower.
