This lighter and more powerful Demon was first seen at SEMA in last year. It is more than just a show car.
Speedkore has established a reputation for replacing steel, aluminum and fiberglass body panels by carbon fiber. This is primarily on muscle cars from the current Ford Mustang, Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, to the 1970 Dodge Charger, and the Plymouth Barracuda.
The Demon must apologize for its weight. It weighs in at around 2 1/4 ton in the stock configuration. If you choose to skip a passenger seat or trunk carpeting, this will be slightly less. Straight-line performance doesn’t suffer from all that weight. We’ve all heard the amazing numbers: 0-60 in less than three seconds and quarter mile in just ten seconds. It’s quite impressive.
Speedkore made the Demon supercharged even more impressive by making two major changes. They replaced the entire body of the vehicle with lightweight carbon fiber. They then swapped out the stock supercharger with a pair turbochargers. This increased horsepower to more than 1,200 at the wheels, which is one-and-a half times the factory horsepower rating at its crank. According to Track, this results in a quarter-mile time of 8.7 seconds and a staggering 162 miles per hour.
This was done with a car with road registration, including headlights and taillights, turn signals, airbags and air conditioning. Power windows are also included. Our minds are blowing up.
The stock Demon’s roaring supercharger whine is quite disturbing, but the twin turbochargers make it sound absolutely terrible. This carbon fiber Demon was originally built for the SEMA show last year (where Clint Simone took some video). It has proven beyond any doubt that it is more than a pretty face.
