The updated fascia has slimmer headlights. But are there more to come?
Last time we saw an X6 test car, it was covered nose-to-tail with a black spiderweb camouflage wrap. The front is not covered in this treatment. This suggests that a debut may be imminent.
What are the implications of this mid-cycle refresh? Close inspection suggests that the grille may actually shrink a little, or that the new front fascia is throwing us off. It appears that the opening is narrower than the current model. There are large corner vents which could contain round driving lamps. The BMW will probably insert some angled sections into its fascia, similar to the BMW M4. This will create a busy face. It’s easy to see the smaller headlights hidden under the hood.
This is the only camouflage that was used on this test vehicle. The tape used to cover up BMW badges was also removed. The uncovered rear fascia can be identified as the hot M-model. It is identical to the current model. The quad exhaust tips are also easily identifiable. BMW may still make some modifications to the rear. It would not be difficult to install similar-sized taillights, but with a different design. However, any changes to the rear or sides will be minimal.
We don’t expect any major interior changes. It could be possible to get a larger infotainment display, or even adopt the single curved screen we see in other BMW models. We expect BMW’s latest iDrive8 tech to be installed. This could also include trim updates for the greenhouse. We expect more power from BMW’s latest iDrive 8 tech, which is not a bad thing. Thanks to its twin-turbocharged, 4.4-liter V8, the X6M is already one of the fastest crossovers on the planet. In standard form, the engine produces 600 horsepower (460 kW), while in Competition mode it produces 617 horsepower (460 kW).
The BMW X6 prototypes have been somewhat erratic in their development. The standard models are usually covered in camouflage, but the X6 M was previously seenwith a similar wrap just on the front. We believe that this means that a debut is not far away, but it could also mean that a month or so may be required or that the debut will take place before the end of the year. It will be determined by the timing of the model’s arrival whether it is a 2023 model or a 2024 one.
