The top will get some work because deliveries begin early next year, when there may be rare opportunities for open-top driving.
American buyers seem to love the idea for an MX-5 Miata with retracting hardtop. The limited edition version has already been sold out. The special roadsters were only available to Mazda customers for the first week. They sold out in 500 units within that time. To reserve the remainder, it took only 13 hours for the general public.
Only the Launch Edition was available with tricoat Machine Gray Metallic paint, hand-painted black roof and Auburn nappa Leather. They also featured LED running lights, automatic climate controls, heated seats, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert and lane departure warning. Mazda also gave the lucky customers a Tourneau 42-millimeter watch as a last gift.
They all use a 2.0-liter four cylinder with 155 horsepower (115 Kilowatts) & 148 pound feet (200 Newton-meters). On the Launch Edition, there was only one option: a six-speed manual gearbox or a six speed automatic gearbox. Mazda claims that 67 percent of customers purchased the special roadster equipped with a clutch pedal.
Launch Edition buyers will receive their cars in the first quarter 2017. The Grand Touring and Club trim levels will be delivered at the same time. The weather in your area might dictate that the hardtop should be kept on for a few more weeks once you have picked up your new roadster. It might still be cold in certain parts of the country.
Customers in the United Kingdom will get a slightly new take on the RF Launch Edition next years. Mazda limits the availability to 500 units. The exterior can be ordered in either Soul Red or Machine Grey. Recaro seats are available inside with Alcantara trim. The special models have a black roof, and all the safety tech.
