VW may be adding another body style to its already fashionable Arteon.

The Volkswagen Arteon flagship made its U.S. debut at the Chicago Auto Show. The four-door coupe will go on sale in the second half of this year. It is powered by a 2.0-liter engine with 268 horsepower (199 kilowatts), and 258 pound-feet (349 Nms) of torque. New reports suggest that the Arteon may get a larger wagon.

In 2017, Dr. Elmar Marius Licharz, the head of product line medium and large cars, stated in an interview with Auto Express that he “would love to make an [Arteon] shot brake – these plans have been in progress but they are not yet final.” New details now suggest that production has been officially authorized for the project.

A stylish shooting brake variant has been shown to artists – we expect many of these cues will continue. The Arteon’s proposed shooting brake, which is not the current model of the Arteon, could be the first MQB vehicle to use a six cylinder engine in Europe. The U.S. Atlas is the only MQB vehicle with a six-cylinder engine. It uses a 3.6-liter, V6. According to reports, engineers have already tried the Arteon with a six cylinder engine.

Licharz said in an interview that if a six-cylinder engine is built – this is something we are talking about for the Arteon. We have already built one in a prototype vehicle. It will also be one you can use in the Atlas, and vice versa. There is no timetable for when the Arteon’s shooting brake will be displayed.

The Arteon will be available for purchase in the United States in six trim options: SEL Premium, SE, and SEL Premium. The pricing will be revealed at a later date.
