It could be a model for 2024.
Toyota appears to be ready for a redesign of its Tacoma pickup truck. The TFLnow YouTube channel posted footage of the pickup performing high-altitude testing. Although this is not the first time that we’ve seen the truck, it’s not the first time we’ve seen it out testing. However, the truck hasn’t shed any camouflage to reveal anything new. The video gives us a glimpse into the interior, however.
Camouflage and cladding continue to hide the truck, distorting it and making it hard to see the details. Just like other automakers, the truck needs to be completely redesigned inside and out.
The new Tacoma may borrow styling cues form the larger Tundra, which debuted in 2022. This would include the styling of the headlights and grille and transform the Tacoma into a little Tundra. The truck will also get a major interior overhaul that should include bigger screens and more technology. Although the video shows the truck with an enormous infotainment screen in the video, it could also be an engineer’s laptop.
According to rumors, Toyota will place the new Tacoma on the TNGA-F platform. This platform also supports the Tundra and Land Cruiser. The truck’s powertrain is still unknown, much like the design. Toyota is likely to offer a turbocharged four cylinder in the model. However, it’s not clear if this would be its sole engine.
Toyota currently offers two powertrain options for the truck: a 2.7-liter four cylinder that produces 159 horsepower (118kilowatts), or a V6 with 278 horsepower (207 kW). A 10-speed transmission could be available on the new truck. Toyota will also offer an all-electric version of the truck, as Toyota showed it late last year. But don’t be surprised if the EV doesn’t arrive soon.
The Tacoma needs a refresh. Ford has introduced the all-new Ranger. Next month will see the redesigned Chevrolet Colorado . We’ll also get our first glimpse at the GMC Canyon. We’re looking forward to the 2022 update of the Frontier by Nissan.
Toyota updated the current-generation truck for the 2016 model year. However, it is time to do a complete redesign. The 2024 model year might see the arrival of the new Tacoma.
