The Road Rover could become the first fully-electric Range Rover.
The British marque saw its lineup expand significantly with the arrival of the P400e plug-in and the Velar. Land Rover isn’t slowing down. New reports suggest that Land Rover could plan at least two additional vehicles by 2020, which would include its first ever “car”.
Autocar reports that Land Rover will be using the same aluminum-intensive platform as the new Jaguar XJ. reported that it won’t be a luxury sedan. Road Rover’s inspirations will come from luxury rivals such as the Audi A4 Allroad, Volvo S90 and others. It won’t run on traditional gas engines.
According to reports, the Road Rover will be powered by a two motor electric drivetrain. This will give it all-wheel drive capabilities and a range around 300 miles (482 km). The Range Rover Road Rover will be the first fully-electric vehicle in its lineup. It could also share its electric components with Jaguar XJ. It is likely that both the Jaguar XJ and I-Pace’s new electric crossover would share similar specs.
This isn’t all that will change in the Range Rover range. The ” Modular Langitudinal Architecture” will be adopted by the new Range Rover in 2021. This new architecture will make the SUV lighter and more efficient and may allow it to adopt the same fully-electric powertrain as the Road Rover.
The new Road Rover will make its debut sometime in 2020 and will be priced at the highest end of the range. The SVAutobiographyLWB, the most expensive mass-market Range Rover, is $208,000. This excludes the limited SV Coupe which costs a staggering $295,000.
