Nothing sounds better than a tuned Subaru boxer motor.
Although we associate Subaru’s STI badge as the Impreza top-of-the-line model, the Japanese automaker also uses the moniker for other high performance vehicles. This Japanese-market second-gen forester STI, which was released in AutoTopNL, shows its performance potential.
This Forester STI is not in stock. The original EJ25 turbocharged 2.5 liter flat-four with 261 horsepower and 279 pound-feet (378 Newton meters) has been restored to its original form. The claimed power output is 335 horsepower (250 kW, 340 metric horses) and 376 lb.ft (510 Nm). Although the video doesn’t show the power-boosting modifications, the tweaks seem to include at least a new exhaust. This crossover sounds great.
Subaru introduced the second-gen Forester STI model in 2004. The 240-kilometer-per-hour speedometer in this video identifies this one as being from 2005 or later.
AutoTopNL begins by finding out the Forester STI’s speed at 62 MPH (100 km per hour). In 6.08 seconds, the crossover hits the speed limit. Even though the road is extremely wet, it seems possible that the vehicle’s acceleration might dip to the five-second range on a more tarmac stretch.
Next is a test run to see how fast the Forester STI goes. The driver stops the car at 131 mph (210 km/h). The vehicle may be capable of traveling a bit faster if it has a longer stretch of road, but not much. This crossover still has impressive aerodynamics, despite the fact that it looks like it can fly through the air with all the speed of a brick.
The Forester STI is not yet legal to register in America if you are in the US. The second-gen Forester XT, however, offers at least a glimpse of it, with the EJ25 turbocharged motor.
