However, they won’t arrive until the middle of the next decade.
Jaguar is quiet these days. At least, not on the surface. Jaguar will soon launch a special edition sports car, but not until 2024. However, this doesn’t mean that nothing is happening behind closed doors.
Jag’s new boss, Thierry Bollore (who became CEO of the company about two years ago), and his team will use this time to develop a strategy that will make Jaguar a luxury automaker with almost as much prestige as Bentley.
Jaguar is expected to launch three luxury SUVs as part of this plan. They are expected to be launched around the middle-of-the decade. The new platform will be the foundation of the flagship trio. It will only be powered by electric systems. According to a report by Autocar the entry-level model will come with two or four doors and cost between PS80,000 and PS90,000. That’s roughly $97,000 to $109,000 depending on current exchange rates. The entry-level models will come with a single motor while the top-end versions will use a dual-motor setup.
The flagship model, which will sit on the opposite side of this trio of electric SUVs will have the same architecture but be approximately 7.87 inches (200 mm) longer. The price for the base model will be around PS120,000 ($145,000). The price will rise significantly if you add the SVR treatment and all of the options. It will cost approximately PS200,000 ($242,500). This SUV will be developed by Jaguar mainly for China and the United States.
A new platform, currently called Panthera, will underpin all three new electric Jaguars. It’s currently in development with an 800-volt architecture and cloud connectivity.
Magna, a parts producer and supplier who currently assembles Jaguar I-Pace, will jointly develop the new platform. The components and technologies of the three new executive SUVs are being used in other Jag models, according to Autocar. “The new control points, electric motors, and software – both on-board and off-board – all that is [what] will create real scale.”
