2023 BMW 7 Series and i7 go into production in Germany

This autumn, global sales will start.

BMW today begins production at its Dingolfing plant of the new 2023 7 Series. Production of the company’s flagship sedan begins with both fully electric and combustion powertrains. The versions share the same assembly lines. The BMW factory in southern Bavaria, which is the largest European production site, is one of more than 30 worldwide. The plant is shared by the new 7 and the 4 Series 5 Series 6 Series 7 Series 7 Series, 6 Series 6, 7 Series, 7 Series, 7 Series 8 Series, and the iX. The factory produces close to 250,000 units annually.

BMW spent more than EUR300million to prepare Dingolfing for production of the 7 Series, and the i7. This is approximately $312 million at current exchange rates. The production of the luxury sedan is automated. This was possible for the first time by using just-assembled 7Series vehicles. BMW will start delivering customer cars this autumn after delivering the first demo vehicles from dealerships.

“Our new BMW 7 Series luxury sedan is the first to offer customers the option of three drive options. We have the flexibility to produce a wide range of drives, whether they are fully electric, hybrid or combustion-powered.

BMW used production shut downs to transform the lines that were previously responsible for the older 7 Series production to make its successor. Bavarian automaker BMW decided not to build new structures but instead optimized existing structures, saving millions. A special process was developed for the two-tone painting of the 7 Series. It combines standard techniques from series production and manual painting by Dingolfing experts.

It is proud to say that the firm assembles all of the electric drive components for the i7 at Dingolfing. The battery and integrated electric drive system are just a few of the components that the firm produces at the Dingolfing plant in BMW’s Competence CEonter. The facility is capable of producing components for more that 500,000 electric cars annually.
