Carbon fiber is a good choice when in doubt.
Tires are the most crucial component of any vehicle, including engines, suspensions and transmissions. Even if you have the most powerful car in the world, a set with $50-per-piece no-name tires purchased at the local Walmart will make a huge difference to your vehicle’s performance. Performance brands don’t skimp on rubber.
The original Bugatti Véhicle was launched with a set Michelins, which cost $42,000 to replace (or $100,000 to buy wheels). Although the tires aren’t quite as costly as those on the Bugatti Chiron they are still very important pieces of engineering. This is doubly true for the Michelin rubber, which took the car beyond 300 miles an hour. Stefan Ellrott, Bugatti’s head for development, revealed some of the engineering behind this set of rubber when he spoke to Australia’s . Ellrott claims that the two French companies took the Chiron’s standard tire, and added a layer carbon fiber to the carcass to increase strength. The two companies then tested the tires, but not with cars. Ellrott stated that they used a plane bench in Charlotte [North Carolina], U.S.A. to ensure the tire would be able to travel more than 500 km per hour (311 miles per an hour)”. You might find that 500 km/h is acceptable. So you can go faster with the tire, so we could determine the fade.
That’s a fancy way of saying Bugatti and Michelin tested the carbon-fiber-reinforced tires to failure. This was more than just for fun. Andy Wallace, the driver of the record-setting Chiron, would be almost certain to die if he was subjected to a blowout at these speeds. The tire was being pushed to its limits by the two companies to detect warning signs. “You’ll first notice that your tire is about to explode. Ellrott explained to Wheels that there will be vibrations and noises before the tire explodes completely. The Chiron was able to hit 304 without any issues, which is a good thing for Bugatti, Michelin and Wallace. Wheels states that the upgraded Michelins are likely to end up on limited-edition Chiron Super Sport 300+.
