Amazingly, none of the occupants sustained any injuries.
The car didn’t appear to be too damaged by the impact. Thankfully, no one was hurt in the accident. The Cooper is causing the car to understeer when it enters the corner too quickly. This is followed by lift-throttle excess steering in the loose sand near the track. The maneuver sent the mini flying backwards across the track, hitting a section of wall that appeared to have been damaged in a previous crash. It is enough to bounce the car back onto track and send the rear end up in the air, before it finally comes to rest. Ouch. You can see a slow-motion replay to get an idea of how severe the impact was. Although the video describes no injuries, the occupants of the car are violently tossed around. We bet that the passenger and driver were both a little sore after the incident.
The car survived the crash, which was a surprise to us. Although the front suspension was damaged and some body damage needs to be addressed, we expected more metal crumpled after such an accident. Even though track officials had to spend time fixing the fence, the Mini appears road-ready with just a few bits of suspension and a new front fender. We’ve had our fair share of hard hits at Nurburgring. While this one isn’t the worst, it’s something we’ll be looking back on for a while.
