To maximize interior space, the manual gearbox has been replaced with a shift-bywire DSG.
Volkswagen has never put so much effort into the teaser for the new Transporter model. The T7 is just around the corner and Volkswagen’s commercial arm is intensifying the preview campaign for its passenger-oriented Multivan version. This will be the launch of the T7. VW has released additional teasers after revealing a sketch the interior just days ago. The Bulli is shown with its two-tone paint scheme and LED light bar in grille. This creates a visual connection to the daytime running lamps embedded into the main clusters. This look is similar to the facelifted Polo. VW does not specify what powertrain is hidden beneath the new sheet metal. However, it is likely to be the plug-in hybrid.
VW Commercial Vehicles’ teaser focuses on the interior, which features a dual-screen digital dashboard that was inspired by the eighth-generation golf. This teaser confirms the rumors that the T7 will be moving to the MQB platform in order to provide a more car-like experience. However, the company is keeping its distance for now. The manual transmission was dropped from the Multivan, which will only be available with a DSG.
It’s not just any kind of dual-clutch auto, but a shift by wire setup, as seen in the latest VW Group compact cars like the Leon, Octavia and A3. And of course the Golf. Shift-by-wire is a shift-by-wire system that eliminates the need for a mechanical linkage and frees up valuable space in your middle.
Thanks to the optional Area View system, the 10-inch touchscreen provides a 360-degree view for the Multivan. This makes parking and maneuvering in tight spots easier. VW Commercial Vehicles will also be retiring the stick-shift transmission. To increase the space between the front seats, a button-activated electronic parking brake was installed to the left side of the infotainment. These changes allow you to easily jump between the front and back seats or use the built in table as a console between the driver’s and front passengers. The table, which is part of a track system, can be placed in any position. All seats are now independent as VW has retired the rear bench. Up to the unveiling scheduled for a little more than a month away, additional teasers will also be made. VW Commercial Vehicles will be introducing the Multivan/Bulli, but the T6.1-based Transporter workhorse that is the T7’s passenger-focused counterpart will also be available.
