Thank God James Corden doesn't actually drive in carpool Karaoke

Every lie is a lie and everything is false.

Over a century, movie magic has fooled people. The unreal can be made tangible by Hollywood wizardry, including special effects and camera tricks. This level of deception can be found in blockbuster films as well as late-night TV shows such “The Late Late Show with James Corden” or “Carpool Karaoke”. This Twitter video shows Corden not driving but the Carpool Karaoke crew driving through Los Angeles. Although the video is short, Corden can be seen behind the wheel while the person who took the video says Corden is with Justin Bieber filming an episode on “Carpool Karaoke.” The Land Rover Range Rover has all four tires off the ground. The front wheels are on a small trailer, and the rear tires are on dollies. Cameras and other gadgetry are used to cover the windshield and hood. Corden’s truck looks like it belongs in a Hollywood movie studio. Although the reveal behind-the scenes is fascinating, it’s not shocking. Although the final product shows Corden driving in segments, there are some cracks in the veneer which suggest Corden didn’t drive. Exterior shots are limited to the rear end. This hides the passengers inside. It’s impossible to be real.

It’s not surprising that Corden is being tow-towed around L.A., despite the hilarious antics he and his guests engage in during episodes. Even though celebrities are able to navigate L.A.’s streets every day, it is still risky for the studio and all those involved in the production to have Corden behind the wheel in case something goes wrong. Corden should not be focusing on driving when his best work is with guests. Let him be focused on that. Is this a peek behind the curtain that will ruin the magic of “Carpool Karaoke?” Perhaps for some. It peels away a layer to reveal some structure to an otherwise spontaneous show.
