Toyota will take a completely different approach to the next-generation Crown.
The Toyota Crown sedan has been sold as a luxury rear-wheel-drive sedan for 15 generations. The Crown sedan was so popular in Japan that it was used to transport government officials.
Although the Crown nameplate has been used at times for coupes, wagons and pickups in China, it is still a sedan.
However, that is about to change with the next-generation Toyota Crown. This was revealed in the leaked patent photos from Japan. Our Kolesa friends took it upon themselves to render unofficially based on the patent images. You can see them below.
The next Toyota Crown will reportedly have a new body style. The new Toyota Crown features a fastback body that is high-riding and reminiscent of the Citroen X or the newly revealed Peugeot 408. The trunk lid and hood are also different colors, as well as the plastic claddings.
Kolesa literally added colors to patent images to bring life to the black-and-white sketches. These images show the blue paint job and the stark contrast between the vehicle’s body and its darker parts.
The Crown Cross will be the name of the Crown. However, details are not available. It will be larger than the S220, which has been in existence since 2018. According to Japanese sources, it will either be powered by a hybrid four-cylinder 2.5-liter engine or a turbocharged 2.0-liter with an electrical motor and a six speed automatic.
In a few days, we’ll learn more about the Toyota Crown. Its debut is rumored to be July 15. It’s not clear if it will be the alleged Crown SUV to the US.
