The hot hatch is nearly ready for prime-time.
Stephen Collins, director of Honda Australia, stated that the next-generation Civic Type R would be released in June. However, it didn’t happen. We’ll probably have to wait a little longer for the hot hatchback, since the latest teaser won’t be followed immediately by an official reveal. The prototype version of the CTR has arrived in the United States ahead of the highly anticipated debut.
The range-topping Honda compact car was still camouflaged and lapped the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, with Chad Gilsinger, vehicle dynamics engineer. At Sunday’s Honda Indy 200, the lead vehicle was the 2023 Civic Type R. Although technical specifications remain a mystery, we are being told that the vehicle is a completely new model and not an evolution of the FK8.
The revamped CTR was already crowned the fastest front wheel-drive car around the difficult Suzuka circuit. It was also seen pushing hard around the Nurburgring last month. This lap around Green Hell was probably done to try and beat the current FWD production car record holder the Renault Megane RS Trophy – R Nurburgring Pack, which is 7 minutes and 40.1 seconds.
The 2023 Civic Type R will likely be the last Honda performance car that does away with electrification. It is likely to be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engine that produces more than 300 horsepower. Depending on where it is located, the previous version had either 306 or 316 horsepower. Although the company stated that it would be the “most powerful and best performing” version, it will only be available with a 6-speed manual transmission.
Honda has stated that the CTR will be available locally by the end of this year in a brief press release. It’s likely that it will reach the $40,000 mark, considering that the original CTR was $38,910. The Si sedan is available at $27,500. It also comes with a 3-pedal system.
