For the year, the Mustang is slightly ahead of Dodge in terms of sales.
The 2022 Chevrolet Camaro didn’t start with a bang. Sales dropped 5.3 percent in the first quarter compared to Q1 20,21. However, sales rose in Q2. Chevrolet sold 4,545 units, which is 62.8 percent more than the same period last years and nearly beat the Mustang. Although it is up 13.9 percent over the previous year, it still trails Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger.
Blue Oval continues its lead, with 4,647 units sold between April 1st and June 30. This is an increase of 107.5 percent. The Mustang is still down at 17.9 percent with 26,244 units sold. Although the Dodge Challenger is between them, it’s closer to the Mustang than any of the 11,255 Camaro models that were sold so far this year.
Dodge has moved 14,558 Challengers in the past three months. This is a decrease of 3 percent. The Challenger sales are down 15% for the year but the Mustang is ahead with 25,682 models sold in the first half.
US car sales fell across all manufacturers in the second quarter. Only Chrysler saw a rise thanks to a 143 per cent increase in Pacifica sales. This boosted the brand by 95 percent. The rest of the industry did not see a similar boost with Q2 sales falling between 10 and 50 percent depending on which brand. For example, Acura sales dropped by 51 percent.
Overall Dodge sales dropped 30 percent in the quarter, and are down 33 percent over the year. Chevrolet sales also fell by 10.5 percent in Q2 and 15% for the year. Ford sales actually increased by 30%, but overall sales are still down 7.9 per cent.
Many are wondering if Chevrolet will cease selling the Camaro after 2024’s model year. Ford has already begun to prepare the next generation Mustang for an April 17th, 2023 unveiling. After 2023 Dodge will remove the Hellcat models of the Challenger line. We also know that Ford is prepping an all-electric muscle car in 2024. However, we are not sure if this is the next-generation Challenger. There are many challenges facing the industry, including supply chain problems that affect nearly every model.
