FWD, RWD and AWD are all available. There are 4 base models to choose from, each with 3 lengths and 3 heights. Each model also has four 2.0 TDI outputs.

After sketching the 2017 Crafter, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles took the wraps off the next-gen workhorse. Although it might not be very different from its predecessor, it is “a completely new vehicle”, one with a drag coefficient 0.33, which is impressive for such a small shape and improves efficiency.

With VW offering three lengths and three roof height options, it will be almost impossible to find a Crafter that meets all your needs. The 2017 Crafter will be available with front-, rear- and all-wheel drive layouts. There will also be manual and automatic transmissions.

We will forgive us if we make a joke, but at the core of VW’s new Crafter lies a 2.0-liter TDI engine that is Euro 6-compliant codenamed “EA 288Nutz”. (from “Nutzfahrzeuge”, which means “trucks”), also found in the T6. The entry-level version will have 102 horsepower (75kW), 140hp (135 kW), and finally the 177hp (135 kW) version.

There will be a wide range of safety and assistance systems available, including ESP (with trailer stability) and Adaptive Cruise Control. The available post-collision brake system will reduce the risk of more injuries in the unfortunate event that there is a crash. The trailer maneuvering assistant system will come in handy, while the night-time illumination will be provided with the LED headlights (with cornering function and Light Assist).

The Crafter is an all-new vehicle. It will also be made at a new factory in Wrzesnia (Poland). Although there was some speculation about a U.S.-bound Crafter (and Caddy) at the beginning last year, it was not before Dieselgate so the chances of that actually happening are slim.
