Subaru STI S209 Live from The Detroit Auto Show

We love the idea of a limited-run Subaru 341-hp Subaru.

Take a close look at the 2019 Subaru STI S209 at 2019 Detroit Auto Show, as your chances of seeing one on the roads are slim to none. Subie intends to bring in “around 200” highly modified sedans to the country. We don’t expect a second batch.

Subaru badges this few vehicles in the U.S. as an STI-branded vehicle because of the amount of work that was done on a standard WRX STI.

The Subaru EJ25 2.5-liter four-cylinder boxer four-cylinder is used in the S209. This overhaul features a larger turbocharger and revised intake. It also includes a forged crankshaft, pistons, hand-polished tubular heads, and a lighter exhaust. This mill now produces 341 horsepower instead of the stock 310. The output is sent to the all-wheel-drive system by a six-speed manual.

After all the hard work of STI, the S209 should be a good handler. Bilstein dampers are used in the suspension, as well as stiffer springs. A front brace, front and rear draw stiffeners and a brace on the front strut tower brace provide additional chassis stiffening. Engineers can increase the width of the front and rear tracks on this model by 0.6 inches (15.2mm). The 19-inch BBS wheels are forged and shod with Dunlop GT600A tires. This setup allows the S209 to achieve more than 1.0 g of lateral grip.

STI does not neglect the S209’s braking. Cross-drilled rotors are available with six-piston front and two-piston rear calipers. These stoppers are ideal for high-friction pads.

Subaru has not yet announced pricing. We know that Subaru has a lot of loyal fans who would love a low-run vehicle. Therefore, we don’t see any reason why the company wouldn’t sell the entire production run quickly.
