Since two years, the builder has been collecting parts of this project.
The 4A-GE engine from Toyota is a gem of a powerplant. In the 1980s, the 16-valve, 1.6 liter four-cylinder engine was used in many performance-oriented Toyota products, such as the Celica, MR2, or the Corolla. The engine’s high redline and ample power were a big hit with drivers at the time. A user on Reddit created a stop motion video that shows the entire assembly process.
His post states that he had collected the parts for this build over two years. This engine is a 1987 MR2 with a stock output power of 115 HP. The builder did some upgrades, which should give the engine a nice boost. The block has been bored to 0.02 inches (0.5 m) and the large pistons have domed tops that allow for a 10.4-to-1 compression ratio. New cams have been installed, and the valve springs have been upgraded. The owner wrote that this was a street build. His goal was to increase the engine’s power, make it more exciting and lively, and keep it reliable.
It’s quite entertaining to see the resultant video. The soundtrack matches the engine’s age, and it’s always fascinating to see how everything fits together. The oil pan is painted in custom colors is a favorite feature. The part is invisible to most people, but it gives the driver a sense of pride in knowing that it exists. The clip also shows the MR2 that the mill produces. When this motorbike is finished, we wish the owner many happy miles.
