Remember sedans? These were popular before the SUV plague. Of course, we are kidding. Audi doesn’t give up on the classic three-box saloon despite an avalanche Q and E-Tron models. The A6 midsize sedan will be given a makeover later in the year. In the meantime, we spotted a prototype that was barely covered.
The black car was found resting in a fenced lot in Ingolstadt near Audi’s development centre. It was surrounded with cars from other manufacturers. It’s a smart business decision to not invest in a facelift for a product that isn’t selling well. There are more opportunities with SUVs. This statement isn’t generally true as Audi has stopped production of the Q2 after the first and last generations of its subcompact models. There could be more to the story than meets the eye so let’s just wait for the Four Rings and their unravelling disguise.
The 2023 A6 will still have the ghastly fake exhaust pipes. It is hidden under the bumper on driver’s side. Audi didn’t bother camouflaging the dashboard. This tells us that the cabin will largely be inherited from the BMW 5 Series competitor. This is the final facelift for the classic model, as it will not have combustion engines in the next generation.
These minor changes will be made to the entire A6 lineup, including the wagon with high-riding Allroad and the sportier S / RS derivatives.
