The U.S. The U.S. Postal Service is looking for a new truck to deliver mail. We have six options that it can use to stop its search.
The U.S. The U.S. Postal Service is currently looking for a new postal vehicle in order to replace the almost-30-year-old Grumman Light Vehicle. The government agency has now narrowed down its search to six possible suitors in its ongoing hunt. There are many options, from AM General, the former builder of South Bend’s military’s iconic HUMVEE, to Turkish-based Karsan Ottomotive and others.
We thought we would help out in the idea department, as the prototype development phase for the opportunity is currently at $37.4million. These are six possible vehicles that we, along with our friends at Vasrooma who helped us to draw them up, believe should sport the iconic USPS livery over the next 30 years.
AM General Hummer H1
We thought it appropriate that AM General, one of six possible options for a new Postal Service vehicle be revived by the company. The Hummer H1.
Although it has been discontinued since 2006, the Hummer could be resurrected to make a great mail-delivery vehicle. This Hummer mail truck can be equipped with things such as a roof-mounted parcel delivery gun (parachute included) and an official USPS kayak.
Jeep Wrangler
The most obvious option of all, the revived Jeep mail truck would pay tribute to the original DJ model that was used in the ’50s through the ’60s. The new version will be more usable, however.
The new Jeep Wrangler’s boxy rear would allow for more letters, packages and large envelopes than the original. Its four-wheel-drive system, natural off-road abilities, and four-wheel drive system would make it ideal for navigating difficult road conditions.
Tesla Model X
The all-electric Tesla ModelX crossover is a great choice for those looking for a more eco-friendly and city-friendly option. With the elimination of second and third rows seats, the interior volume of the Model X’s standard Model X is currently 77 cubic feet. This could theoretically be tripled.
This extra space could easily accommodate a few dozen packages or more. Additional features such as a dual-opening tailgate with ramp and an autonomous package delivery arm would make it easier for mailmen and women to do their jobs.
Mercedes-Benz Vision Van Concept
The smarter, more spacious Mercedes Benz Vision Van concept is the best choice for suburbs. The Vision Van concept features intelligent rear cargo space, roof-mounted drones and can deliver multiple packages simultaneously, which makes it more efficient and faster.
The electric motor, which is 101 horsepower (75-kilowatt), would be under the hood. It can travel 168 miles (270 km) on one charge. An electric motor will reduce not only emissions but also sound pollution.
Nikola One Semi
The Nikola One Semi, which was recently announced, is more efficient than standard gas-powered semis for cross-country mail and package delivery. The USPS should be considering this futuristic electric semi to add to its fleet. It features a hydrogen fuel cell powertrain that allows for autonomous driving and zero emission driving.
Ferrari GTC4Lusso
This Ferrari GTC4Lusso Postal Service vehicle should have the slogan “One-night delivery or your money back!” The GTC4Lusso is equipped with a V12 engine of 680 horsepower and 15.9 cubic feet rear cargo space. It should be able to deliver your packages in a matter of hours.
