Keen Project Safari Porsche 911 Fears No Speed Bump

Matt Farah is Matt Farah’s new daily driver, a 1987 911 Carrera.

Most people associate Porsche 911 with images of a road-going, canyon-carving sports car. While 911s look amazing on the street, it’s also a good thing that people forget about their rally pedigree. Matt Farah, The Smoking Tire fame, hasn’t forgotten. He actually just bought a 911 rally-spec 911 that he claims is his daily driver. We are a little jealous, we won’t lie.

This car may look familiar because we have seen similar off-road 911s. It’s a Keen Project Safari 911 built by a pro-race driver. Porsche connoisseur Leh Keen. These cars are rare and he has only built a few. Farah was the one who drove the first car and decided that he wanted one of his own. The result is the 1987 911 Carrera.

Apart from obvious modifications to the tires and lighting, the 911 receives a four inch lift with Elephant Racing suspension. Although the torsion beam arrangement in the rear isn’t fully coilover, it’s still great for handling the tough streets of LA. Under the rear wing, a new 3.2-liter flat-six engine from BBI Autosport was installed. Farah says it doesn’t make as much power as stock, but it is enough to be fun.

We aren’t sure what Farah means by the funky print on the interior, but we love how minimalistic and cozy it looks. The driver’s seat is custom-fitted and bolted to the floor. The rear seat has a rollbar in the back and a handy stereo for blasting out tunes as you navigate California streets and dusty desert trails.

Farah plans to drive his Project Safari Porsche daily in an off-road-ready 911. It’s quite the ride, and the suspension seems to be very comfortable. With that much ground clearance, it’s unlikely there are any speed bumps or steep driveways that could stop it.
