Porsche 718 Boxster Spyder – Red Hat on Unreported Porsche 718 Boxster Spyder

Boxsters who are hardcore and dedicated stand out with their flying buttresses.

Porsche has been testing its new 718 Boxster Spyder since the beginning of time. Although it isn’t yet ready to reveal, we do have images that show the intense droptop. The Nurburgring was captured (obviously). The flagship Boxster was almost camo-free. However, if you look closely, there is something that looks like a mesh on the LED daytime running lamps and some black tape.

Porsche has taken off most of the disguise and we have the opportunity to see the Boxster Spyder’s red top, the pair of flying buttresses, and the rear spoiler. The prototype is positioned closer to the road than the 718 Boxster GTS. It also features a horizontal slat on the top of its front bumper, where it meets with the hood, in the same vein that the 911 GT3 / 911 GT3 RS.

The Boxster, a range-topping model, will inherit the naturally-aspirated 4.0-liter six cylinder engine from the GT3. However, it has been tuned to be more similar to the GT3 in order to not step on its toes. It will produce more than 400 horsepower, which is well beyond the GTS’s 365-hp turbocharged Boxer-4 punch.

Porsche is likely to sell the 718 Boxster Spyder, which will come with a standard manual gearbox as well as an optional PDK. This will please both sides. The 718 Cayman GT4 coupe should follow a similar path. This Clubsport variant will be limited to the track once more. Stuttgart may eventually bring out a new motorsport-spec Cayman in the form of a rally ready car.

In the meantime, we expect the official unveiling of the 718 Boxster Spyder, along with the equivalent Cayman, in the coming weeks.
