American Kia’s lineup has two less sedans.
Kia will simplify its American lineup in 2021 by dropping the Cadenza, and H900. Driver published the rumor first.
Both sedans are slow sellers so this decision is logical. The K900 sold 305 units in 2020, compared to a similar 390 in 2019. These numbers are shocking for a vehicle that received just a new generation in the 2019 model year.
The K900 offers buyers lots of tech and luxury. The 12.3-inch screen was used as an infotainment screen. An optional digital instrument cluster could also be found inside. Buyers could also get a 9.7 inch head-up display. Comfort was assured by a 20-way adjustable driver’s seat and a fourteen-way adjustable rear passenger’s seat.
Cadenza managed to move 1,265 units in 2020, which was a slight improvement on the previous year. This is a decrease of 1,630 units from 2019. Even the sedan got a refresh in 2020.
Cadenza’s new face was updated with new parts for the grille, front fascia and hood. The rear was redesigned with full-width taillights. A 12.3-inch infotainment display was standard inside.
Motor1.com spoke to James Hope, Kia spokesperson. “As we restructure our model lineup in order to meet consumer demand, the K900 model year and Cadenza will be discontinued,” Hope said. “With Telluride’s introduction, the all new K5 sport sedan, and the all-new Sorento SUV we have made our model lineup more attractive than ever. We look forward to meeting our customers’ needs over the coming months and years.”
Overall, Kia shipped 586,105 vehicles to the US in 2020. This was down from 615 338 units in the previous year. The combined volume of 1,570 vehicles saw the Cadenza/K900 account for less than 1% of all the automaker’s last year deliveries.
The Kia lineup still offers a wide selection of four-door models. Customers can choose from the Rio, Forte and K5 (formerly known as the Optima), or the Stinger.
