The Polestar treatment has been given to the Volvo XC90, S90 and V90.

Polestar, a wholly owned Volvo subsidiary is now ready to inject more power into the all-new 2017 Cross Country equipped with the D4, T5, and D6 engines. Polestar engineers can increase the power output by up to 200 hp or 440 Nm. The D5 is available in a beefier version. It can be upgraded from series 235 HP and 480 Nm to series 240 HP and 500 Nm. The T6 can be upgraded to produce 334 horsepower and 440 Nm.

Although the power gains are small, Polestar states that it will tweak the gearbox’s calibration to allow for faster shifts. Volvo’s performance arm stated that the main focus of the wagon’s mid-range capability was to optimize it for daily driving. Polestar describes this as a “more dynamic driving experience” that includes improved throttle response and upgrades in other areas.

Future sporty Volvos will be equipped with electrification to increase power and efficiency without compromising on efficiency. People looking for a powerful Volvo will have to settle for four-cylinder engines.

Last but not least, the XC90T8 Twin Engine by Polestar is the most powerful Volvo currently on sale. It has an upgraded turbocharged and supercharged gas engine and an electric motor that produce a combined 421 horsepower (314 kW) & 502 lbft (680Nm) respectively.
