Driving is one of the worst things you can do.
We won’t ever try to put our cars in reverse while driving. They are too dear to us that we would be rude. There is someone braver than us. Mike is his name and he runs the AutoVlog YouTube Channel.
He drives his 2015 Ford Fusion auto at 70 mph (112 km/h) on the highway. Then he shifts into reverse and… boom! Nothing happens! There’s not exactly nothing. But there isn’t an explosion. We expected something extraordinary! Instead, all that actually happens is activation of reverse camera and parking sensors. Oops, the indicator cluster on the instrument cluster displays R instead of D.
Mike explains that you can expect different results when you experiment with cars of different eras. We also bet that serious damage will result if the car is a manual. It all depends on the vehicle’s age, since many modern cars have a safety feature that prevents you from shifting to reverse while driving.
You can see some other interesting experiments in the AutoVlog videos. What happens if you push the star stop button while driving? Or can you drive with the gas pedal off? What happens if the electronic parking brake is pulled while you drive?
These should not be done with your car. You can still feel for your car, just as we have for ours.
