Ford Focus Won't Be In Geneva Next Month, April Debut Announced

All versions of the Vignale, ST Line and wagon are coming this year.

You won’t be able to see the new Ford Focus at this year’s 88 th Geneva Motor Show. According to a spokesperson for Blue Oval, the compact hatchback’s next generation will not be shown at the major Swiss event. Automotive News Europe Instead, the refreshed Focus will be unveiled at an independent Ford event in April.

The five-door hatchback will be the first to be displayed, while the more practical wagon will follow later in the year. AN does not say when the sedan will debut, but it is likely to follow soon. We are not surprised that it will be released alongside the hatch. The ST Line, which is sporty and stylish, will also be debuting in 2018. The crossover-inspired Active model will be released, along with the ST hot hatch. Although it is too early to predict when the range-topping RS model will be released, it is likely that it will arrive within 2-3 years.

Ford has provided official preview photos and spy shots that show the Focus IV growing in size. It will also adopt a more sharp exterior. The cabin will undergo significant changes inside and should be able to catch up with the Euro-spec Fiesta supermini. The European version of the car will continue to be produced at Ford’s Saarlouis factory, Germany. However, the U.S. model will be assembled at the Michigan plant in mid-2018. The next-gen car will be imported from China in mid-2019.

Ford will have something new to display at the event, even though the new Focus won’t be there. The entry-level Ka+ will be given a makeover and the Edge will join it on stage. This might lead to a seven-seat variant to cater for larger families.

A number of automakers have indicated plans not to attend the Geneva Motor Show. This includes three PSA Group members: Opel and Vauxhall.
