We need a super SUV.
The supercar is a hybrid that’s both exciting and technologically impressive. This vehicle is a celebration of Honda’s automotive passion and cutting-edge engineering. It also reflects a moment in Honda’s history for producing production cars.
The NSX supercar was a halo product by Honda, and is used to market lesser cars. But what if there was an NSX SUV that you could drive with your entire family? The concept has some foundation in reality and an artist has now created an unofficial rendering for what an NSX SUV might appear like.
This rendering of an NSX SUV may seem like blasphemy but it is exactly what Honda needs in order to increase the brand’s impact. A mid-engine supercar can be exciting. But in today’s SUV crazed market, an SUV built with the same passion as the NSX could be a winner. Honda can connect with more buyers and amortize the development costs of the NSX’s advanced drivetrain.
It is no secret that automakers are moving away from coupes to more practical vehicles. This trend will also impact supercars. Honda should cash in on a market where Lamborghini and Porsche Bentley, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and soon Ferrari all offer high performance SUVs.
The NSX SUV would likely have to abandon the mid-engine layout and opt for a more traditional, but less bulky, front-engine layout. The NSX SUV has more space for batteries, which makes it easier to charge your battery.
An NSX SUV is a big departure from the existing NSX layout. However, in a world where both the NSX supercars and SUV can coexist peacefully, I don’t see any reason to introduce this model.
