Cadillac Building More CT6-V Sedans, Raises Price By $4,000

Although the 550-horsepower sports sedan will be around for a while, its future is uncertain.

The executive offices of Cadillac are starting to make us feel a bit confused. A new report by CarsDirect shows a significant price increase for Caddy’s CT6V sports sedan. It went from $88,790 up to $92,790. The basic math shows that this is a $4,000 increase, and the automaker has not made any changes in the standard equipment list. This is a fascinating statistic on its own. However, in case you were wondering, Cadillac has canceled the CT6V and the entire CT6 North American line. The extremely limited number of 275 CT6Vs has already been sold. What gives?

Let’s take a look at the CT6-V. The automaker last year announced that the CTS_V would be ending. However, the CT6_-V was slated to replace it. The new sedan featured a sleek 4.2-liter twin turbo V8 called Blackwing. This engine is a 550-horsepower (410 kilowatt) and Cadillac was proud to show it off to the automotive world. The CTS-V’s successor was in action and in November GM made a big announcement that several vehicles would be cut including the relatively new CT6. We were informed that the sedan would continue to exist in China.

Things get a little strange between that announcement and today. We hear rumors that Cadillac might keep the CT6 in America. Then, word spreads that a tuned version of V’s BlackwingV8 could be put into the Platinum model. GM recently announced that production would continue at Detroit-Hamtramck’s manufacturing plant throughout 2019, extending CT6 production for six more months.

Cadillac may also build some more CT6-Vs, although the exact number is not known. The first batch sold out quickly so the automaker feels justified in spending a little more money to improve its bottom line.

This latest CT6 development could indicate that the sedan is still available in the States. It seems that GM may be considering removing nearly all sedans from the U.S., as Ford has done. We hope that the CT6 and sweet CT6V will continue to be available.
