Litchfield will soon offer new exhausts to fit the latest 911.
Update: An earlier version of this story stated that Litchfield had tuned both the 911 Carrera Carrera 4S and 911 Carrera Carrera 4S to produce 572 horsepower, 480 pound-feet torque and 572 horsepower. Porsche Boost emailed to say that this is unlikely as the base 911’s compressor and turbine wheels are much smaller than those of the C4S and the boost pressure is lower. It is unlikely that one tune could produce the same output from both engines .. Litchfield was not clear so we emailed him. Here’s the reply from Iain Litchfield, company director: “Thanks so much for your interest in our 992 tuning project. We used a Carrera 4S as our development car. However, all information we could find (mainly from the UK press), was that the European base Carrera would get the same engine but de-tuned to comply with the latest emissions. Although small turbos were not mentioned in the Porsche press release, I am more than happy to correct it. It’s an incredible engine. Based upon Litchfield’s comments we have removed all references to the tuned 911 Carrera output from this story and added more detail about the differences between the base engine.
There are many variations of the Porsche 911, but the Carrera S continues to be the best with 443 horsepower (330kilowatts) and a 3.0-liter twin turbo flat six. Litchfield is available to assist 992 owners who are looking for even more power. The British tuner is now able to push the Carrera S up to 572 horsepower (427 kW). Peak torque increases to 480 pound-feet (650 Newton meters). At current exchange rates, the improvement will cost PS995.00 ($1,222). The tune will be offered on the base 911 Carrera as well, although it is not known how much power and torque the Porsche will have. Re-calibrating the engine management system is all that’s required to achieve this output. Litchfield just plugs in a connector to the 911’s ECU, without having to remove anything or open any panels. The vehicle is now European emissions compliant after the tweaks.
Litchfield claims that the 911 Carrera and CarreraS use the same engine as the 911-generation 911 GTS. However, it is worth noting the fact that turbochargers for the base 911 use different components and produce less boost than the CarreraS’. Litchfield is familiar with tuning this engine and reports that there is “a lot of headroom to make more power.” The tuner has already developed a performance exhaust as well as other mechanical upgrades for the 992-generation 911 Carrera models. Litchfield claims that the new pipes from Akrapovic and Remus already show impressive improvements in performance, as well as reducing weight.
If you are patient, Porsche should release at least one of its more powerful 911s before the end. The new 911 Turbo is said to make 600 horsepower (447kW) using an updated twin-turbo, 3.8-liter flat-6 engine. Turbo S reportedly increases the power output to 640 horsepower (477kW). The upcoming 911 GT3 will get a naturally-aspirated 4.0-liter flat-6 with approximately 550 horsepower (410 kW) and a Touring model would make this powertrain look more aggressive.
