This is when Drift Mode is on.
The driver may be having difficulty initiating drift for a variety of reasons. He is clearly trying to drift on an autocross course. These courses are fun and can be a test of your driving skills, but they are not ideal for drifting. You’d expect that a wet course would make it easier to drift. You should also know that the driver has Drift Mode on.
The driver is getting closer and closer to drifting as you watch the video. This could mean that part of the battle is to get used to the course and driving conditions and the Focus RS itself. Before you go full drift, it is important to be familiar with all of these things. Nobody wants to see their car get mangled in front of others. It would be embarrassing.
The Focus RS is the anti-drift machine. The all-wheel drive system is provided by the turbocharged 2.3-liter engine, which produces a formidable 350 horsepower and 350 pound-feet. It only comes with a six-speed manual transmission, making it an exciting hot hatch. Ford’s Drift Mode adds torque vectoring technology to make it more powerful. It can send as much as 70% of the power to the rear wheels and as much power to either the front or back. If you add counter steering to the mix, power oversteer should result.
This video shows that even a fancy tech gadget and a driver mode won’t make you Chris Harris overnight. Drifting is still a skill and the driver’s skills are improving with each passing, but it seems like he’s more skilled than drifting. You won’t become Ken Block by buying a car.
