Is the Nordschleife madness going to end? We sure hope so.
Another Nurburgring record. The trophy is returned to the world internal combustion engines by Lanzante Motorsport with the modified McLaren LM. The hypercar, which was ultra-exclusive, blitzed Nordschleife in a remarkable 6 minutes 43.2 seconds. It then returned to the UK. The car was not trailered but driven back.
The McLaren P1 LM, as you might expect, isn’t a regular P1, if such a thing exists. The biturbo V8 can produce a maximum of 4.0 liters of displacement, as opposed to the 3.8-liter motor in the standard P1. The turbochargers and electric motor give it an extra boost to produce a total of 1,000 horsepower. The LM weighed 132 less than the P1 GTR. This was achieved by using lightweight materials like lexan windows and removing the built-in air-jack.
The P1 LM uses the same aerodynamics as the P1 GTR, but with modifications to the rear wing and a larger front splitter. Lanzante claims that the modifications give the P1 LM 40% more downforce. The roof is fully covered in carbon fiber and there are more carbon fiber panels throughout the interior as well.
This new record follows the claim of Nio, an electric upstart, to have claimed the production car record a few weeks ago. Some people were skeptical about the EP9’s status as a “production car”, since only 16 of them will be made. These people will doubt the McLaren LM HTML1 LM, which will only be made of five examples. Even if you had a million dollars in your pocket, these five have already been sold.
The P1 LM remains road legal and has air conditioning. Do you want to bet on how long this record will last?
