After dumping large amounts of rain in the Southeastern United States, Hurricane Harvey finally moved northward. Houston, Texas was especially hard hit. According to , the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Houston Weather Forecast Office recorded 43.38 inches (110.19 cm) of rain from the storm. Massive flooding continues to plague the region, preventing many residents from leaving their homes. High water makes it extremely difficult for emergency personnel to respond. Some people with severely lifted trucks are coming to their aid.
The group Rednecks With Paychecks Offroad organizes off-road events for people who want to get their truck and SUV dirty in Texas. The group members are using their lifted vehicles as a way to assist those affected by the flood. The group released a video showing their giant Cadillac Escalade lifting a stuck military vehicle from the water. It was even featured in the national news. Watch the video below. After their work in Houston, the crew moved on to Beaumont and Port Arthur, Texas. Beaumont received more rain. NOAA data showed that the two towns received 47.35 in (120.27 cm), of rainfall from Hurricane Harvey.
Rednecks with Paychecks Offroad members have been livestreaming their efforts via Facebook over the past few days. Their videos provide an incredible look at the extent of the flooding.
Rednecks with no pay have started a GoFundMe campaign in order to raise funds for their efforts. The group has raised $4,304 in three days.
Others with lifted trucks are also available to assist. Derrick Lewis, MMA Fighter, is helping people with his lifted Chevrolet Silverado. He also assisted in pulling out vehicles stuck and hauling them to safety.
Anderson Cooper, CNN’s news anchor, has praised the efforts of volunteers who have lifted trucks. In a recent broadcast, he gave a short interview to one of the pair.
