Do Not Believe Your Eyes! This is not a Jeep Wrangler

Replicas are loved or hated, but you must admit that they did a great job.

It is usually cars like the Pontiac Fiero that are made into something they’re not. But it seems that there is also a market for a Jeep Wrangler-like. The Jeep Studio in Coimbatore can convert your Mahindra Thar into an exact replica of a Wrangler three-door for about $10,400 (not including the donor car). The Thar is available for around $13,300 in India, the second-most populous country.

It begins by comparing the plans of the two cars, and then the Thar is stripped down to its bones. The new body panels are all handmade, and everything on the outside is modified. The conversion process has one main goal: to preserve the original hardware as much as possible. This is why the engine bay remains unchanged.

Jeep Studio isn’t just focused on Wrangler conversions. It can also reproduce another iconic off-road vehicle, the Mercedes G Class. Although it may appear to be a G-Wagen from first glance, underneath the boxy body lies another Indian vehicle, the Mahindra Bolero. This one is slightly more expensive, as the conversion took four months at the current exchange rate. There are no interior changes.

Nothing beats the original. The Wrangler and G-Class will soon switch to new generation models, with the Jeep due to be unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show in its entirety later this month. The G-Class will replace the W463 model that was around in 1990. It will be revealed soon.
