Spied: MINI Cooper S Diesel & Clubman S Diesel

These MINIs were normal looking and our spy caught them. They didn’t pay much attention until they heard the engine sound. It seems MINI is getting a more potent diesel motor.

MINI is expected to launch a turbo diesel model soon. This will complement the Cooper D and MINI One D. One pipe is also on the Clubman model, which could be confusing to amateur car detectives.

The distinctive diesel engine sound is what gave the game away. A slightly different front bumper also exists. Some prototypes had the cosmetic-only bonnet scoop while others did not. We don’t know if the cosmetic-only bonnet scoop will be kept.

The Cooper S petrol range features a 1.6-litre twin-screw turbo that produces 128kW (172hp), 240Nm torque (260Nm when overboosed) and maximum power output. MINI One D, on the other hand, produces only 66kW (90hp), and 215Nm of torque while its Cooper D brother is capable of producing 80kW (110hp), and 240Nm.

Expect the Cooper S D, or whatever they call it, to produce between 103kW and 140hp (140hp), with peak torque hovering around 300Nm.
