New LEDs, new look: Volkswagen Golf mkVI has made improvements to the rear. But is it worth it. Photos and details inside.
Volkswagen Golf enthusiasts will be cheering for the new offering from VW. The Golf VI’s rear LED lights are now available as an option for EUR350, but they come standard on the Golf GTD and Golf GTI.
To create the four curvy-and-dotted shapes in the photos, the company uses 48 light-emitting diodes. The smoked lens covers these lights, creating a distinctive look that is not likely to blind tailing motorists.
They also look great and can light up to 0.2 seconds faster that normal incandescent lamps. VW claims this technology is safer than the traditional incandescent lights. It can stop at speeds of up to 100 km/h and has an equivalent stopping distance of 5.6 meters. This depends on how hard you brake.
Bi-Xenon headlights are also available at 1,295 euros from Volkswagen. The high intensity discharge lighting system is available as an option on all Golf VI models except the Golf R, which comes standard with them. It also includes a dynamic cornering light that adjusts the light beam angle and the steering angle. They adjust the light beam’s perimeter range to match the vehicle’s speed, depending on whether it is city driving or highway driving. In city traffic, for example, up to 35 km/h, the driver’s side lane boundary is brighter.
